Blessings trump heartache.

There is so much tragedy in this world. The media tends to sensationalize it, we all know people who are affected by it, and it is so easy to get bogged down by all that is scary and wrong and seemingly out of our control. We shake our heads, we pray, we hold our loved ones a little closer to us, and we try to keep some sense of sanity.

A friend on Facebook posted a quote and a link yesterday that I fell in love with.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.” – Fred Rogers

It is within my control to be a helper and look to the helpers for reassurance of the positive. At the end of the day, no matter how bad that day happened to be, I can remind myself that there is more good than evil, more right than wrong, and more love than hate. And more beauty from a rose than pain from a thorn.
